Ferreira - Airexe 5oct13. 23km

español abajo

Had a tough night sleeping. Got up twice because my bedbug bites were itching and my knees were aching. I took it really slow when we started out.

We stopped in Portomarín to check out the town. It had been flooded about 50 years ago, because of a new dam, so they moved it to higher ground. The church they took apart brick by brick, which were numbered, and put it back together again. You can still see some of the numbers!

We stopped for the night in Airexe, a tiny little village, and since we were done early, we had time for a siesta, to use a washing machine, and have some beers in the afternoon. The bartender came running out when he saw that one of his colts had gotten loose! We loved it!

Samos - Ferreira 4oct13 27km

español abajo

Iñaki woke up with a swollen ankle and wasn't sure if he could go on. We weren't sure if it was his shoe or a bedbug bite. Ibuprofen to the rescue!

The plan was to go to Portomarín, but we stopped in Ferreiro, at the Mercadoiro hostel. It was in a little field and had been a farm at one point. So cute! It had much more charm than all the big places. There are still a lot of people walking, and we wanted to avoid the crowds. The people working there were wonderful and made us delicious lentil soup and steak for dinner. I would definitely stay there again!

Seguramente me quedaría allí otra vez.

O Cebreiro - Samos 3oct13 33km

Super windy when we left town! Probably 40mph gusts! Wow! Once it cleared up, the trail was gorgeous! We went through so many green forests and the light on the mountains was beautiful.

There was a really hard downhill part before lunch, and my knees were screaming. Ibuprofen has been a good friend this trip! But still no blisters!

My bedbug bites from Astorga are slowly healing, but they're still gross to look at!

We did a load of wash in Samos, and all I had to wear was my towel and T-shirt, but no one commented on my "mini skirt."

Rabanal - O Cebreiro 2oct13 33km

español abajo

We're getting stronger and faster! We had more than 30km to do and finished half by 12:30pm.  The weather was cool and that helped. We took a lot of pictures of the cute little towns. They were so cool!

Of course when we crossed into Galicia, it started raining! I loved it! I was so hot from going up and up, that it was a welcome change!

O Cebreiro itself was amazing! It's a tiny place, with old stone buildings and churches.

Me encantó!

Sandra caught up to us last night! She did 46km from León to reach us! OMG! My hero!!!!!

We got up early, but didn't get going until 8am, which is late for pilgrims. We were in no hurry and went through a lot of cute old towns. In this part of the country, most of the houses have interior courtyards. One was open, so we stopped in and talked to the owners. The place was beautiful! So many flowers!

We also stopped in a cowboy bar! Ha ha ha! The place was filled with cowboy hats and was in the middle of nowhere! The owner had on a Harley jacket! It was so out of place, but such a nice sight after walking so much!

When we got to Rabanal, we got cleaned up and went to a tiny church that had three monks doing Gregorian chants. Quite a change from the cowboy bar! And I'm sure you know which place I preferred!

Villadangos - Astorga 28sept13. 26km

español abajo

We started and ended in the rain, but it wasn't bad. I was really paying attention to my feet, which have been ok so far. Also, we didn't go very fast because our friend Sandra was trying to catch up with us from Leòn.

I loved the long Roman bridge in Hospital de Órbigo, which you'll see below. It was my favorite part of the day.

We're baaaaaack! Yessssss!
I met Iñaki in León, where we had left our new friends last year. I was thinking of all of them!

It hasn't rained in León in four months, so of course it did today! We didn't care since we were so excited to be on another Camino adventure!

Since I have had so many problems with blisters, we decided to go slow and not very far the first day. It rained the entire time, but we both felt great and even helped out some shepherds chase some of their sheep back to the rest of the herd!

Hemos vuelllllltooooo!
